What Is Biological Age?

Biological age measures how old your body seems based on various biomarkers and lifestyle factors, as opposed to how many years you have been alive (chronological age). How Your Biological Age Is Calculated

Our calculator uses a multi-factorial additive model based on decades of aging research:

  1. Base: We start with your chronological age.
  2. Lifestyle factors: Each factor (exercise, sleep, smoking, alcohol, diet, stress, BMI, resting heart rate) adds or subtracts years based on meta-analytic effect sizes.
  3. Domain scores: Your inputs are mapped to 5 body systems (cardiovascular, metabolic, immune, brain, musculoskeletal), each scored 0-100.
  4. System ages: Domain scores are converted to per-system age estimates.
  5. Pace of aging: Your total adjustment is converted to a "pace multiplier" — how fast you are aging relative to the average (1.0x = normal).

DNA methylation epigenetic clocks (like Horvath's pan-tissue clock or Levine's PhenoAge) are considered the gold standard for biological age measurement.
