What Is a Carnivore Diet Calculator?

A carnivore diet calculator estimates your daily macronutrient needs — protein, fat, and calories — based on your unique stats and goals. Unlike generic macro calculators, it accounts for the carnivore diet's unique zero-carb approach and lets you choose your preferred fat-to-protein ratio.

The calculator goes beyond just numbers: it translates abstract macro targets into real food portions (grams of ribeye, number of eggs, pounds of ground beef) so you know exactly what to buy and cook. Use it alongside our TDEE Calculator for a complete picture of your energy needs.

Carnivore Ratios: Which One Is Right for You?

There is no single "correct" fat-to-protein ratio on carnivore — the best ratio depends on your health goals:

  • Therapeutic (80/20): Very high fat, low protein. Used for neurological conditions like epilepsy or severe autoimmune issues. Most ketogenic.
  • Standard (70/30): Balanced fat-to-protein ratio for general health, sustained energy, and weight maintenance. The most common approach.
  • Lean (60/40): Higher protein, lower fat. Ideal for fat loss, body recomposition, or those who feel better with more protein.
  • Muscle Gain (55/45): Highest protein ratio. Designed for athletes, bodybuilders, and anyone prioritizing muscle growth.

How Much Meat Should You Eat Per Day?

This is the #1 question in the carnivore community. The answer depends on your protein target, which is driven by your lean body mass and activity level. Most people need between 1.0 and 1.2 grams of protein per pound of body weight.

In food terms: a 180 lb (82 kg) person targeting 180g of protein would need roughly 820g (1.8 lbs) of ribeye, 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of 80/20 ground beef, or a combination like 500g steak + 8 eggs. Our calculator's What to Eat Today section shows you these equivalents for multiple meat types.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the carnivore diet safe?
The carnivore diet can be safe when properly planned, but it eliminates entire food groups. Consult a healthcare professional before starting, especially if you have kidney disease, gout, or a history of eating disorders. Common adaptation side effects include fatigue, constipation, and electrolyte imbalances.
What can you eat on the carnivore diet?
All animal products: beef, lamb, pork, poultry, fish, eggs, and some dairy (butter, hard cheese). Organ meats like liver and heart are encouraged for micronutrients. All plant foods are excluded — vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
How much fat should I eat on the carnivore diet?
Fat should make up 60–80% of your daily calories depending on your chosen ratio. Fat is your primary energy source on carnivore. If you feel low energy, increase fat. If your goal is fat loss, a leaner ratio (60/40) may work better. Choose fatty cuts like ribeye over lean meats.
Is the carnivore diet good for diabetes?
Many people with type 2 diabetes report improved blood sugar control on carnivore due to the elimination of carbohydrates. However, if you take insulin or other glucose-lowering medication, consult your doctor before starting — your dosage may need significant adjustment to avoid hypoglycemia.
What are the benefits of the carnivore diet?
Reported benefits include weight loss, improved mental clarity, reduced inflammation, better digestion, simplified meal planning, stable energy levels, and relief from autoimmune symptoms. Individual results vary, and more long-term research is needed.
